The passport application process usually is not directly affected by bad debt. The passport application process mainly relates to personal information and power of attorney documents, with no particular connection to credit history. Regarding visa applications, you can still obtain a visa because the entities to which you owe bad debt do not belong to the authorities that decide whether you can leave the country or not. In case you are being sued and have legal issues related to debt, leaving the country might become difficult. In some cases, if there are judicial decisions or legal measures related to departure, you may encounter difficulties. If you still want to leave the country, the entities must send a letter to the Ministry of Public Security and the Immigration Management Department for you to leave the country.
However, you need to be honest in the visa process. Countries often require financial information and credit history to ensure that visa applicants can maintain their expenses and have no financial risks. Hiding information about bad debt may be considered dishonest and can have serious consequences. Visa approval agencies often assess the level of financial capacity and credibility of visa applicants to ensure that they can maintain their expenses during their stay in the country. If you are facing financial difficulties and bad debt, showing improvement in your financial situation and having a plan to repay the debt can improve your visa application prospects in the future. For such cases, planning, implementing financial improvement measures, and demonstrating honesty in visa applications are important to gain trust from visa approval agencies.
In summary, bad debt can still affect returning to Vietnam if you are not involved in lawsuits.
